Camtasia for Mac Immediately

I have been using Camtasia 5 for Windows since the day it was first released. That release was exciting for me and I am sure version 6 is even better. At that point in time, I remember writing a note to Camtasia practically begging them to come out with a Mac version. Believe me, I was excited to see a Mac version up and running ... but it certainly does not have all of the features that the PC version has -- and you can see that clearly in the price. A price of $99.00 for Mac tells the user that this is an attempt at coming up to speed with the software.

I know Mac is a relatively new platform for TechSmith and I have complete confidence that new versions of Camtasia studio to come will be more robust and on equal footing with the PC versions in the past.

I am using a 30 day trial version on my Mac and will really kick the tires. The user interface really matches well with other Mac-type applications ... so for the seasoned Mac user there should be some familiarity. I am not keen on the button combos required to stop and start recordings. Instead of a nice floating window that allows a user to stop and start a recording, we are forced to utilize some archaic key combination to stop it (or use a small icon in the task bar at the top of the Mac screen). Anyway, it's a little bit different and I think they can probably figure out a way to make future iterations of this software more robust and user friendly.

Also missing is a good manual for Mac users on how to really get the most out of this vsrsion of Camtasia for Mac. On the surface, there does not look as if there are half the features Camtasia for Windows has. Part of me thinks that perhaps TechSmith was putting something together to appease us Mac users but did it in a half-hearted way. The price kind of tells it all. $99 vers $300+.

I think they can do a HECK of a lot better next time and hope that there will be a next time for Mac users. I love the product and it really has a place for Internet marketers, instructors and many more populations. It's worth making both platforms on equal footing eventually. I DO appreciate TechSmith's effort though. It's been a long time coming!
